Troubled national airliner, Air Zimbabwe, has fired 10 of its senior managers. Amid the harsh economic climate prevailing in the country and the chaos created by the Supreme Court ruling allowing companies to fire workers without any retrenchment package, the parastatal dismissed the long serving managers.
Retrenchment can be one of the most stressing situations in our lives especially when it comes unannounced. The questions that most retrenched workers are asking as they face the dreaded chop is, “Why is Life So Difficult?” These workers lost virtually everything they had made themselves comfortable with. Company cars, housing and transport allowances school fees for their children and various other allowances that they may have been having have been lost
When faced with circumstances such as losing your job, take note that In life, there is sadness as well as joy, losing as well as winning, falling as well as standing, hunger as well as plenty, badness as well as goodness. This is reality. No job is permanent in life. If jobs were permanent then there would be no death. Hard times are part of life and this has to be embraced.
Retrenchment has always been coming. It is just that many people who were in their comfort zones never bothered to do reality checks. The nature of today’s workplaces are such that companies continue to cut costs and the obvious target is the employee.

Air Zimbabwe: 10 Managers Made Redundant. |
Retrenchment has always been coming. It is just that many people who were in their comfort zones never bothered to do reality checks. The nature of today’s workplaces are such that companies continue to cut costs and the obvious target is the employee.
In times of job loss, positive thoughts can be a life raft in the stormy currents of day to day living. Negative thinking diminish confidence and energy. Instead look ahead and face the reality. There are many options available once you leave your comfort zone. Pretend to be calm. A calm person exercises his mind much better than a person in a panic mode. There is no longer any need to worry as you devote your time to mapping a way forward. When you get a job, you worry about losing it. When you lose it, it means no more worry.
Being out of your job is an opportunity to be a business person. You can start any business that you always wished for in life. Invest in your brains rather than pitching permanent tents at a company that pays you to be at work. Learn something and get moving. All is not lost and this is just the beginning of a new era.
Get on with it. Believe in yourself. Your self-concept shapes your interactions with the world.
